Ahhhhhhh, I make myself laugh.

Speaking of fanboy/girl turns of phrase that personally offend me, can I quickly just address “you don’t understand.”

“You don’t understand.”  You assume an awful lot, sir.

“You don’t understand.” And I probably never will, right, so why are you talking to me?

“You don’t understand.” Because no one on the internet has ever felt they way you do about X, before.

“You don’t understand.” Obviously this is a liking-things contest and you’re winning.

“You don’t understand.” Well, you haven’t even heard me respond … 

“You don’t understand.” And YOU don’t care to interrupt your rant long enough to talk about it.

Nobody says “you don’t understand,” when they are trying to reach an understanding with you.  They say it to let you know you’re not impressed/cowed/mindfucked enough by what they’re ranting at you.

I don’t know why but it drives me fucking crazy.  Maybe because I am a fangirl and I usually do understand what it’s like to feel so intensely about something so utterly strange.  Maybe because I don’t like people assuming shit about me.  Maybe because fandom often feels like a contest I can never win for lack of time/ funds/ willingness to tolerate other people’s arbitrary opinions about things I enjoy.

You don’t understand — shut up, you have no idea what I understand.
